Accommodation Locations

This section is set up to offer suggestions on where individuals or parties might stay while on the route. Not all stages stop at locations where there is extensive accommodation or eating facilities, but in all cases additional local communities and transport provision by private hire are readily available if booked in advance.

Transport Options

To and from Start and End Points

Wallsend is accessed from Newcastle upon Tyne by way of sir, sea, rail and bus. From the centre Wallsend is connnected by frequent Metro rail service and local bus.
Bowness on Solway is accessed from Carlisle where rail and bus services are readily available. There is then a relatively infrequent service (5 to 6 daily 1-2 weekend) connnection to Bowness. Service No. 93. This takes between 35 and 45 minutes.
Melrose is only accessed by bus services from Edinburgh, Newcastle, Berwick upon Tweed and locally from Galashiels. From Galashiels there are regular connection buses to Carlisle and Edinburgh. The Newcastle connnection is 1-2 times per day, the direct Edinburgh link is several times per day but slower to the service linking via Galashiels.

Linking start and end points

Wallsend to Melrose : This would be by Metro to Newcastle centre, Newcastle to Edinburgh National Express bus No. 383 or Munro No. 131 stopping in Jedburgh and Melrose.
Bowness on Solway to Melrose : Local bus to Carlisle then No. 95 Carlisle to Edinburgh route stopping off at Galashiels then local service to Melrose.
Wallsend to Bowness on Solway : Hadrian's Wall Bus AD122 or Metro to Newcastle then bus No. 685 or train to Carlisle then No 93 to Bowness
